My Dad’s Vision
My dad was a kind and strict officer known for his good discipline and active nature. His stern look was enough to guide everyone in the family. Despite his tough exterior, he had a soft spot for me and always motivated and encouraged me. During my childhood, my father’s words were often bitter and strict. He would scold me for my mistakes and push me to be better. I didn’t understand his intentions back then and felt hurt by his harsh tone. But as I grew older, I realized that his words were not meant to hurt me but to shape me into a strong and capable individual. He showed his love and affection in his unique way, always putting our needs before his own.
His vision for me was different from what I had in mind. He wanted me to have a successful career and work outside the home, whereas my heart’s desire was to be a homemaker and take care of my family. He was a firm believer in the importance of a good diet and regular exercise, and he practised what he preached. Every day, he would wake up early, do yoga to keep himself fit and then go for a walk. But fate had other plans. Alas! While walking one day, he passed away. The day is still etched in my mind, and I can’t help but feel a sense of loss. The very next year, on the same day, I joined Mahatma, our school that shared my father’s values of discipline, hard work and perfection. What a coincidence! It was as if my dad’s vision for me had finally come true. I became a teacher, just like he had always wanted and I was
determined to make him proud.
In a way, his passing had given me a new base for life, and I was determined to make the most of it. His values of discipline, hard work and perseverance have stayed with me throughout my life. I knew that he would be showering his blessings, proud of the person I had become. I am forever grateful for his wisdom and love.
